Royal Opera House Muscat
MOOD: ART, CLASSIC, CULTURE, LUXE
BUDGET: $, $$, $$$
Theatre-lover Sultan Qaboos founded the Royal Opera House Muscat (ROHM) to both promote diverse Omani artistic expression and foster cultural diplomacy and exchanges. In his mission, the programs at the Opera House are a rich range spanning countries and styles, with prices accessible to everyone. It may surprise you, but 3-5 OMR buys base-level entrance to most shows.
ROHM’s striking white facade is a glorious tribute to contemporary Omani architecture. The Shati Al-Qurum complex is a landmark symbol of the future of new Oman, worldly and international while maintaining its wealth of traditions.
Since opening in October 2011 with opera Turandot, conducted by Spanish tenor Plácido Doming, an impressive of roster of international greats (Yo Yo Ma, Andrea Bocelli, Diana Krall), Arab stars (Majida El Roumi), and ballets and orchestras from London to Korea have graced its stage. A special treat are the nights the Royal Oman Symphony Orchestra performs.
