Fondation Le Corbusier
MOOD: ART, CULTURE
BUDGET: $$
As a pioneer of the Bauhaus movement, renowned architect and designer Le Corbusier believed that “space and light and order” are necessities in life, and set standards reflecting perfect minimalist, linear form, a modern update on the Grecian temples that were his favorite. This philosophy is exemplified at Maison La Roche – now museum Fondation Le Corbusier, which archives a 360 degree view of the synergies of his work, from the building’s architecture to furniture and sculptures to sketches and writings. The former private residence has a clean, yet provocative avant-garde aesthetic – white punctuated with large swatches of bold color, boxy windows, and sweeping ramp connecting two stories. It proves a striking gallery backdrop to Le Corbusier’s 8000 personal drafts and studies, known to be the world’s largest collection.
