Hôtel Amour
MOOD: AFTER HOURS, CASUAL, SCENE
BUDGET: $$
Paris is the city of love. Hôtel Amour has taken French romance and made erotic hip. Set south of red light district Pigalle in a former brothel, it was opened in 2006 by a Costes and designed by nightclub impresario André Saraiva (of Le Baron). The boutique hotel’s 20 rooms are all different and photoshoot ready. Notable artists such as Alexandre de Betak, Sophie Calle, Terry Richardson, and Pierre Le-Tan transform each into their versions of a love nest, from glossy black walls to disco balls to a heavy dose of leather. It’s not a light-hearted love the fashion and jetset crowd is after, but darker, more rock n’ roll.
ROOMS
Rooms are small and highly variable, but the price is reasonable, starting at €145. Though double the price, splurge for the duplex suites with a terrace.
RESTAURANT
1 RESTAURANT popular with young, trendy Parisians. The retro vibe – vintage stools and old photographs – and pretty garden patio make it a hotspot. Not all style over substance (as some would criticize the rooms), the simple food made of quality ingredients is served in hearty portions. The salads are touted as some of Paris’s best.
