Hôtel Edgar
MOOD: AFTER HOURS, ART, SCENE
BUDGET: $$
After Guillaume Rouget-Luchaire shuttered his Marais restaurant, he invited a hodgepodge group of friends – designers, artists and filmmakers – to transform an old textile workshop in the up-and-coming Little Egypt neighborhood into a hotel. Hotel Edgar, named after his son, is a free-spirited boutique hotel that has captured the essence of the young, artistic and clever. The decor is modern and mod, with quirky touches of vintage chic among generous portions of pattern and color, from the jade-colored restaurant (better to photograph yourself off of) to thematic rooms like “Dream” – a childlike wonderland of action figures and toys – “La Chambre Perchée” – a treehouse-like space – and seductive noir of “Ebène Rock” (compliments of a Chanel designer). This is the sort of place that makes a location, drawing hipsters and the Parisian fashion set one kilometer west of their favorite haunts to its retro black and white patio for posed Instagram shots.
Do not miss the popular restaurant with outdoor terrace. The neo-bistro is stylish and loud – a tribute to “The Elegant Sixties.” Seafood is its speciality: Normandy oysters, Bordier-buttery prawns, and roasted octopus. Prices are a tad high, but you pay for the character, the ambiance never disappoints.
ROOMS
Not just high-low style, the cozy rooms (it is Paris after all!) are comfortable and full of quality amenities: complimentary apples, Kusmi tea, Molton Brown toiletries and fast wi-fi. The twelve rooms on three floor are divided in three room types: Charmer, Gentleman, and Elegant, priced reasonably by the season from €170-295. Each has a view of the picturesque square in front.
